Our 3rd and 4th class hurlers recorded a notable victory when they won the Eastern Indoor Hurling competition. The team was comprised of a mix of some players from last year’s team but also some younger boys making their first appearance. The competition was run over a series of two blitzes with the top two teams from the first blitz qualifying for Roinn A Group 1.

On our first day out we were victorious against Ferrybank, drew with Gaelscoil na nDéise and lost out narrowly to Ballygunner. A playoff was required to separate St. Stephen’s and Gaelscoil na nDéise and following a goal from Shane in extra time we qualified for Group 1.

The second blitz saw our boys playing against Mount Sion, St. Declan’s and Ballygunner once again. In the first game we defeated Mount Sion. In the second game we beat St. Declan’s, after three late goals, decided what was a very close game. Following Mount Sion’s draw with Ballygunner we knew that a draw in the last game would seal the trophy. Ballygunner led throughout but a last gasp goal from Toby secured the required draw on a scoreline of 2-2. Huge congratulations to all players involved who trained very well in the lead up to the competition and got their deserved reward, and well done to team manager Mr. Fitzgerald too!
