Lá Gaelach 2020:

It took place on Wednesday and Thursday, 11th and 12th of March. We also had the daily news on the intercom every day for Seachtain na Gaeilge. CLICK HERE to see photos and videos!
2020 Lasallian Competition:
For the fifth year in a row, Mr. Russell's 5th Class entered the Lasallian Competition. This year's theme was "In the Words of John Baptist de La Salle". Since 2015, the entries from St. Stephen's have won a category every year, with St. Stephen's being the only primary school taking part in 4 out of the 5 years. The boys had a very innovative idea for this year -
St. Patrick's Day fun in Junior Infants:
We all love celebrating our national day! Junior Infants had a lot of fun learning about St. Patrick and all the Irish traditions that are celebrated all over the world. The boys made some brilliant leprechaun hats and beards -
World Book Day took place on Thursday, March 5th. As always in St. Stephen's, we had LOTS of fun activities and games all centered around books and reading. See LOTS of photos on our special World Book Day page HERE!

Our school's Chess Club took part in the Ficheall.ie regional tournament on Thursday, February 27th, 2020 at Waterford ETNS. Our boys played well on the day and everyone enjoyed the experience. Photos are here -

Cooking for Fun:
Cooking for Fun took place in Mr. Coghlan's and Miss Finnegan's 3rd Classes during February 2020. The boys enjoyed a few weeks of cooking and baking and there were some lovely smells all around the school! "Fast Fashion" Workshop with Sustainable Living Initiative Waterford:
Sustainable Living Initiative Waterford, along with some TY students from a number of local secondary schools, visited 4th, 5th, and 6th Classes in St. Stephen's during January and February with a workshop about "Fast Fashion". The boys learned about how the fashion industry contributes to climate change through pollution and usage of water. Find out more and see some photos from one of the workshops HERE. Thanks to Global Schools Waterford, supported by the Sustainable Living Initiative, for visiting St. Stephen's with this very worthwhile activity!
2020 Credit Union Quiz:
The 2020 Waterford Credit Union Primary Schools' Quiz took place on Monday, February 3rd, 2020 in the Woodlands Hotel. Mr. Keevers accompanied our two teams on the night and the boys did well. Click here to read more!
Grandparents Day in Junior Infants:
Catholic Schools Week took place between January 27th and 31st, 2020. Part of the annual week is "Grandparents Day", a special day when we all give thanks for the wonderful gift that our grandparents are. Miss Kenny's and Miss Nevin's Junior Infants celebrated a really lovely Grandparents Day on Friday, January 31st -
5th Class Basketball :

FÍS Film Festival:
As you may already know, Mr. Russell's 5th Class 2018/2019 entered the annual FÍS Film Making competition for primary schools last June. The boys made a film about Thomas Francis Meagher. Unfortunately, the boys weren't shortlisted for an award, but were still highly commended and entered into the FÍS Hall of Fame. We were all delighted to be recognised for a great effort from the boys. Imagine our surprise and delight recently, when a trophy arrived in St. Stephen's commemorating the boys' film. They, and we, were understandably delighted! It now proudly hangs alongside the 2018 award for Best Documentary in reception in St. Stephen's. Mr. Russell's 5th Class 2019/2020 are already planning their film for this year -

The atmosphere in St. Stephen's was absolutely buzzing for Christmas 2019! SO many amazing activities taking place all around the school, from visits to the Giving Tree to awesome artwork, from concerts to Christmas Card exchanges. Christmas Carol Service:
Our school's annual Christmas Carol Service took place in the Cathedral in Barronstrand Street on Wednesday, December 18th. It's always a highlight of the Christmas season in St. Stephen's, and we were delighted to see so many parents, grandparents, families, former staff members, past pupils and friends of our school come along to join us for some lovely carols to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas time. Christmas Raffle:
The annual St. Stephen's Christmas Raffle draw took place in the school on Thursday, December 19th, 2019. As always, everything raised goes back into the school to benefit the boys. Thanks to everyone for their magnificent support for the raffle -

Annual Cinema Trip:
Every year at Christmas, the boys get a nice treat and are brought to the cinema. This year, Junior Infants to 2nd Class went to see "Frozen 2", while 3rd to 6th Classes were treated to "Abominable". All the boys were well behaved on the day, so well done to all!

A Visit to Waterford Crystal:
Miss Finnegan's and Mr. Coghlan's 3rd Classes each visited the House of Waterford Crystal factory on The Mall for a guided tour! The boys enjoyed seeing how the world famous glass is shaped and made. Read more and see some photos here!
Christmas Carol Singing:
Every year, Miss Power and the school choir visit Maypark Nursing Home to sing some Christmas Carols for the residents. It's always a pleasure to visit older members of the community and bring a little festive cheer. This year, the carol singing took place on Wednesday, December 11th. Well done to Miss Power, Miss Brennan and all the choir boys from 5th and 6th Class!

Basketball Training:
Every Tuesday, boys in 5th and 6th Class have been taking part in basketball training in the yard after school. Everyone's been enjoying the skills and drills and games, as they get ready for the competitions which are coming up after Christmas. See some photos from the basketball training!

Parents' Association Quiz Night:
Our school is very lucky to have a hugely supportive Parents' Association. One of their activities is a quiz night for boys in 3rd to 6th Classes. There was a huge turnout this year! Well done to all the boys and thanks to the parents who helped out on the night. Check out the photos!

Our annual Parent Teacher meetings took place towards the end of November for Senior Infants to 6th Class. Thanks to all parents and guardians who came in to meet with our teachers to discuss your son's progress. It was lovely to meet with you all!
Science Week:
Science Week took place last week and our 4th, 5th and 6th Classes were in WIT on Friday, November 15th for a workshop about recycling and the environment. Photos from that show are HERE. 3rd Class were at WIT to see Bubbly Maths, which incorporated Science and Maths, and all the boys had a fun time. Click here to see photos from the 3rd Class workshop! Gaelic Football Coaching:
We are always delighted to welcome GAA coaches to St. Stephen's to give some training to the boys in our national games. Mr. Russell's 5th Class were learning all about Halloween in Gaeilge (Irish) and decided to make a short video to practice their spoken Irish. The boys did a great job! Check it out!
Mayor's Visit:
The Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Breda Brennan, visited St. Stephen's on Thursday, October 24th. She presented certificates to boys who missed no days of school in 2018/2019. Well done to these terrific boys! Our school also presented certificates to boys who only missed one, two, or three days in the year, as that too is a marvellous achievement! Miss Kenny's Junior Infants really enjoyed their Aistear theme in October -
Maths Week proved to be absolutely amazing in St. Stephen's! All week, there were lots of fun games, puzzles and Maths Trails, as the boys are shown that Maths is all around us, every day. Mr. R. Hayden's 6th Class used their Maths Eyes all around our school grounds, Mrs. Breen's 1st Class played lots of games and saw that Maths is all around us every day, while Mr. Russell's 5th Class took a Maths Trail around Ballybricken. 1st and 5th Class got together to do a Maths Trail -

De La Salle College Show 2019:
Our 5th and 6th Classes went to see "Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat", staged by De La Salle College, on Tuesday, October 15th. Everyone enjoyed the show, and it was great to see many past pupils of our school on stage as part of the cast, and involved in other parts of the show's production. Well done to everyone involved for another excellent show!
Blast Off for Space Week in 5th Class:
Mr. Russell's 5th Class were celebrating Space Week Ireland 2019, part of World Space Week. The boys were learning lots about planet Earth, our solar system, and other interesting things about space, as well as doing some science experiments with a space theme. Busy times in Miss Keevers' 5th Class:
There's been LOADS happening in Miss Keevers' 5th Class! The boys enjoyed a History Trail around the city and had 4 weeks of energetic fun with their Zumba lessons! Well done to all the boys and keep up the great work!

A Visit to the Park!:

Rugby Coaching:
The boys in our 5th and 6th Classes were treated to some rugby coaching on Thursday, September 19th. They learned about the rules of the game, practiced some skills and played some small sided games. Check out photos from one of the sessions!
Drumming!:
Always a hugely popular activity in St. Stephen's, Drumming is back for 2019/2020! The first classes are halfway through their lessons and are enjoying their weekly drumming. The classes taking part for September are Miss Power's 2nd Class, Miss Byrne's 4th Class and Mr. Russell's 5th Class. Well done to everyone involved! The annual Waterford Primary Schools Athletics were held at the RSC on Tuesday, September 17th. Mr. Keevers travelled with a large number of athletes from St. Stephen's, and all the boys performed well.
Gaelic Football:
The new school season of Gaelic Football is in full swing! The boys are in training already and picked up their first draw recently. Well done to all the boys!
