Caoilán gave a very interesting talk to his class, Mr. O'Sullivan's 3rd Class, about 1916 and an amazing link to that event in his family. He also went around to the 5th and 6th Classes and told his fascinating story to those classes too, who were very interested to hear all about it! These are the medals from my great grand uncle John Rochford. He was born in 1898. John was a member of the IRA. He was on the run and often stayed in safe houses. One night the house was raided by The British and two small children were shot dead. He fought in The Rebellion in 1916 at the age of 18. He died in 1966 at the age of 68. His wife was a member of Cumann na mBan in which this medal was presented to her. She was the first female station master in Ireland which was a big role to play at the time.
