Safer Internet Day was celebrated around the world on Tuesday, February 9th, 2016.

Here in Mr. Russell's 5th Class, we marked the day with lots of discussion. We used the wonderful resource from Webwise.ie called "Safer Selfie" to learn about the power of the internet and how quickly something put online can spread. As an experiment, we took a class photo and put it on our Twitter account, and asked anyone who saw it to RT (retweet) it. We were amazed by the results and it gives us plenty to think about when posting anything online!

We also talked about copyright, and creative commons - including how to search for copyright free images and audio, and the importance of giving credit to authors for their work, as well asking for permission to use certain photos or other materials.

We also made some posters for SID. The theme for the posters was "Stay Safe Online". The results are just fabulous! See the posters in the gallery below!
