- St. Stephen's De La Salle BNS

The football team at St. Stephen's were in action in the FAI Schools SPAR National 5 ASide Competition!

Mr. Coghlan and Mr. Russell took a team each to the initial group stage. Mr. Russell's team were paired with Scoil Lorcáin, St. Declan's, Ferrybank, and Mount Sion. Mr. Coghlan's team were grouped with St. Declan's, Ferrybank, Mount Sion and Holycross.

The top 2 teams from each group would qualify for the Waterford finals of this competition, and it was to prove a difficult task. Mr. Coghlan's team won 2 and lost 2, missing out on qualification by a single point, while Mr. Russell's team had a difficult start, losing the first game 0-3, and 0-2 down at half time in game 2. A fight back to draw 3-3 saw them win their final 2 games, and qualify in 2nd place for the Waterford Finals.

Unfortunately, the Waterford Finals were a tough round of games and the team were knocked out, finshing 3rd in the group. All the same, the boys put in a great effort and everyone is rightly proud of them!
