2016 is a very important year in Irish History. It marks 100 years since the Easter Rising of 1916, which is famous the world over.
Here in St. Stephen's De La Salle, we marked "ProclamationDay" on March 15th, 2016, by joining every single primary school in Ireland, by raising the Tricolour and reading aloud excerpts from the 1916 Proclamation. We were presented with our copy of the Proclamation and Tricolour by the Defence Forces in October 2015.
To mark this very special occasion, some of our boys read excerpts from the Proclamation, while one of our pupils read a new Proclamation, a proclamation for Ireland in 2016. Following that, seven boys read a biography of the seven signatories on the original Proclamation, while another seven boys held aloft photos of the seven signatories. Then, it was time for the raising of the flag. As the Tricolour was hoisted, we sang our nation's anthem in both English and Irish, as "A Soldier's Song" and as "Amhrán na bhFiann".
We are so proud of our pupils for their efforts in making Proclamation Day 2016 so special, we are very proud of our school, and we are proud to be Irish.
