Hurling is a game, thousands of years old, first played by the Irish and now played around the world by many other counties, a lot of whom have Irish descendants. It is recognised as one of Ireland's national games. The idea of the game is to use a wooden stick, called a hurley, to hit a ball called a sliotar either between the other team's goalposts for a goal (which is worth three points) or over the crossbar for one point.
Hurling is a very popular game in St. Stephen's! Coaches from the GAA come to St. Stephen's to teach the boys in the younger classes some skills. Br. Frank and Peter offer after school hurling in the yard to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Classes. 4th, 5th, and 6th Classes are looked after by teachers Mr. Keevers, Mr. Fahy, and Mr. Hayden, and take part in blitzes and inter-
